Tails from Greece Rescue
has been approved as a non-profit charity by the Public Guardian & Trustee and is now registered
in the Province of Ontario, receiving Letters Patent effective January 4, 2008 under Ontario Corporation Number 1755354.
For those of you who don't know me, following is a brief history of how Tails from Greece Rescue came about.
During my many trips to Greece, my eyes were opened to the plight of animals in various
parts of the country, so I decided I wanted to help in some small way. I found out about Greek Animal
Rescue (GAR), a UK registered charity and, in 1998, volunteered to raise donations and recruit annual memberships
for them, as an NPO under the name of Greek Animal Rescue - Canada / garcanada.
As is often the case when one gets involved with a project close to their heart, the rest
is history ....
Special thanks goes to everyone who supports this effort, be it by adoption, fostering,
making a donation, becoming an annual supporter, volunteering to do home visits for potential adoptions or participating
in our fundraising activities.
Many of you have been part of this effort from the beginning and I hope you'll continue
to help as it is YOU who truly makes a difference in the lives of these animals!

PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE AND PROVIDE FOR THE VETERINARY NEEDS OF YOUR PET
A very important, but often not considered, aspect of responsible pet ownership is being financially
prepared for veterinary needs when they arise. Please consider the Petsecure Health Insurance Program
to provide the financial help needed when your pet requires veterinary care and you'll also be helping
our cause too, as with each activated policy, we'll receive $25. We all benefit .... you have peace
of mind knowing your pet's health needs can be met as it's always a terrible decision when one has to euthanize
their pet because they can't afford the cost associated with treatment that would otherwise make your pet better;
and we raise some much needed funds to help continue their rescue efforts! To find out more about
the Petsecure Health Insurance Program, please click below.

****VISITORS TO GREECE****
If, during your visit to Greece, you wish to bring
home a companion animal, be sure to check on your country's quarantine requirements. (Canada and the United States,
as well as many countries in Europe, have no quarantine requirements for companion animals but the UK does.)
Recommended steps include taking your companion
animal to a veterinarian in Greece for vaccinations and other required tests (which may have a 'within so many days
of travel' time restriction attached) as well as a Health Certificate showing proof of vaccinations.
Depending on where you are in Greece, a Health Certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture, may also be required.
The Your companion animal also needs to be microchipped prior to leaving Greece. Further down the page you
will find a link to information for bringing companion animals into Canada and the U.S.A. so please review the one
relevant to where you live.
Airline reservations need to be confirmed for
your companion animal. Some airlines will allow small pets - puppies or cats - to travel in the passenger
cabin within Europe and North America but, for most overseas flights to North America, your companion animal will
not be permitted to travel in the passenger cabin.
There may also be a 'no fly' travel period when
airlines flying overseas will not accept a companion animal on board due to extreme temperatures. Be sure
to check with your airline to ensure your companion animal can travel.
Regardless of where you're flying to, your new companion
animal must be booked prior to leaving Greece.
It's also recommended that you call your home
country Embassy in Athens to confirm you've covered all the necessary requirements.

HOW YOU CAN HELP A STRAY IN GREECE
GET A NEW HOME
Even though you may not be in a position to adopt one of
the Greek strays yourself, you can help by making a donation to offset
the expense incurred to bring a dog or cat to Toronto for rehoming.
Donations can be made by cheque, payable to Tails
from Greece Rescue (and mailed to the address at the bottom of this page), with Visa or thru the PayPal link on
this page. Please indicate your donation is for the 'Rehoming Fund'.
Your support is urgently
needed and very much appreciated!
Thank you for caring!!
Consider Being a Foster Family
If you would like to be a temporary foster home for one of our dogs or cats coming
over from Greece, and you live in the GTA or within a 2 hr drive of Toronto, please email diannealdan@sympatico.ca to register as a foster family.
Having a foster home available means the dog or cat could leave Greece sooner as well as
making the adoption process a little easier in that a pre-approved family could meet the dog before committing to
the adoption.
The dogs & cats are vetted prior to leaving Greece.
Thank you for giving this idea some thought and helping us during the process of rehoming
some needy dogs and cats.
